Sudden Death

The deafening explosion knocks the men off their feet.

Brightness blinding each brigadier.

Fear runs among them,

because they know they are going to fall here

and never get to hear or see their own death.

With the flash of the grenade

comes the flashing of their lives.

Sights are trained on them.

Something they will never know,

something they will never feel.

Just like the pull of the trigger.

Death comes silently

to soldiers who live in the noise of battle.
