There was a still lake

There was a still lake,

timeless in its beauty.

Chirping birds, rocky sand, and clear skies surround,

as distant laughter sounds.

The long wooden dock faces faraway

mountains and neighboring houses— all this lake

has ever known.

Its main purpose is to be a pretty

background to the people

coming and going.

Bound to observe their surroundings

while the lake ends where it started—

unmoving.
