Thank You for the Broken Heart

As she sat in her running car, parked a block away from his house, she stared at the box in the passenger seat beside her. It contained all that was left of who he used to be to her. She wanted a moment of quiet to gather herself and stop the tears from rolling down her cheeks, red from the cold. Cars sped by, driving through the sludge left from the melting snow. She wiped the last of her tears away, began to drive, and thought, “ It’s better to feel this pain than to have never felt anything at all.”
