Where I'm From

Where I’m from, train rides are like walks through an art gallery, whether you are heading to or from the center of the city.

The homeless cling to their seats like weeds in your garden.

They will dwell in the stench of the subways forever.

Where I'm from, broken homes are on every street, a whole family is rare to see.

Stairwells are the habitats of gossipers tipsy from the party going on upstairs.

Friends fall victim to the evil hand that hangs over them, and dead men walk into liquor stores looking like sponges.

Where I’m from, people walk around with socks on their foreheads, swords in their pockets, but there are hard working parents that never left you hungry and made sure you soared above your community, not joining the community in their destruction.
