Doubts
Katie Hughes
The ear-piercing ring from the alarm clock strikes,
A reminder that she cannot fly away,
She slams her hand down to make it stop,
Curls into bed like a baby bird in a rainstorm,
Unable to leave the woven nest,
Fragile and Alone.
She pulls the blankets over her head,
Isolating herself from the outside,
Like the abandoned bird watching the rain,
She doubts whether she can fly.
