I walk to the front of the register and the cashier automatically asks how I am.

I think about the question silently,

I am not fine.

I am fixated on situations I cannot change.

I ask questions that do not have answers.

I wonder what my future holds, but I can only think of regrets.

I am a failure.

Finally, I respond, “I am fine, thanks”.
